The Problems I Had

It has become increasingly evident to me that it is beyond time to replace my pots and pans. The hand me downs passed along to me and the inexpensive ones I have picked up here and there simply are not doing the job well enough.

My food heats unevenly, lids are lost, and some have become warped. Rather than replacing a pot here and a pan there, I have decided to take the plunge and buy a complete set at once.

A Perspective on Simply Calphalon Non-Stick Cookware Set

3 Major Considerations

I love to cook. I know I’ll be using this cookware on a daily basis. That’s why I spare no effort in finding the best cookware set for my family. That’s why I think you should too.

To me, there are 3 biggest considerations that go into the selection process. First of all, the set should come with everything that you need. Of course this is something that is unique to every individual, depending on one’s favorite style of cooking and the dishes.

Second, I have to be comfortable with the manufacturer churning out the cookware product. Again, this is something that varies between different individuals but one that’s largely determined by budgetary concern rather than anything else.

Just like buying a jewelry set. Tiffany & Co. is the most reputable jewelerer but it makes no sense to include them in my consideration if I know I don’t have tens of thousands to spend in a single piece of jewelry.

All-Clad and Le Creuset are recognized as the finest names in cookware. But I wouldn’t want to be looking at their offerings if I only have say $100-$200 to spend on a brand new cookware set.

That brings us to the third considerations – $$$. With budget range of $100-$200, Calphalon is a perfect fit. Simply Calphalon Nonstick 10-Piece cookware set may not be at the highest end of the price spectrum. But it comes from a brand that I feel quite comfortable with.

2 Pans + 4 Pots

Calphalon 10-Piece Nonstick cookware set comes with 2 pans and 4 pots.

2+4=6. Isn’t it supposed to be a 10-Piece set? That’s the most common question asked by a cookware newbie. No, they didn’t get their maths wrong. Let’s not forget about the lid that comes attached to each pot.

This simply leads us to 2+4+4=10. Now everything appears to be perfect.

The pans are of size 8-inch and 10-inch. 8-inch is perfect for making omelet. It’s a bit big for pancakes but something that I can live on.

The pots are of size 1-quart, 2-quart, 3-quart and 6-quart. If you’re like me, you’d love having these pots. I’m a hard core DIY person. I prefer to make almost everything on my own. From broth to stock to soup.

While I find most use in the 1-quart and 2-quart pots, the bigger sized pots are great when I need to prepare large servings. That’s when I invite friends and relatives over for ‘food tasting’ or regular gatherings.

Is 10-piece considered too few or too many? I feel it is just right. 6-piece set might be a bit short and 12- or 15-piece set might be overkilling. At least that’s based on my own experience.

Think about what you really need most. Decide if 2 pans plus 4 pots are enough to get everything done.

Quality of Nonstick Surface

If you’re looking for cookware with nonstick surface, don’t assume that every nonstick coating is the same. Certain coating materials, especially the cheaper ones, simply do not deliver on what it’s supposed to do.

Besides the poor nonstick property, cheaper materials are not recommended because of their harmful health effect.

Another common complain that’s frequently mentioned in many cookware reviews is the durability of the coating. The nonstick coating found on cheaper cookware sets usually do not last. They will either come off at the slight scratch or they will peel off by itself.

This is something that I look out for when I went through the various Calphalon cookware reviews. The good news is, Calphalon cookware owners seem to be generally happy with the coating quality. Of course you won’t expect a 100% satisfaction.

There are a small number of owners who were disappointed with their Calphalon cookware. But it is within the ‘lemon’ rate that is to be expected of any product.
